New Arrival: Desolation Jones, by Warren Ellis

Just in is the first paperback collection of Warren Ellis's series Desolation Jones. Jones is a former M16 agent who has been psychologically damaged by his government's "Desolation Test". He has been relocated to Los Angeles, where he is allowed to lead a "normal" life, as long as he does not leave the city. Here, he tries to make a living as a private investigator. His first assignment...to recover a pornographic film directed by and starring Adolf Hitler. This trade paperback collects the first six issues of the series.

Graphic Novel Book Discussion, March 22

Please join us on March 22, from 7-8:30PM, for a book discussion of two award-winning graphic novel biographies: Art Spiegelman's Maus, and Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Maus tells the story of the author's father, as he lives through the beginnings of World War II, and survives the Holocaust.

Persepolis is the story of a young girl growing up during the Iranian Revolution of 1978, and how she struggles to understand both herself and the changing world around her.

New Arrivals: Sandman Mystery Theatre, by Matt Wagner

Just in are several trade paperback collections of Matt Wagner's highly regarded Sandman Mystery Theatre series. This series was set in the 1930's, featuring the Golden Age hero Wesley Dodds, the Sandman. Dodds was a superhero with no super powers (except for possibly true dreams), who fought crime in a gas mask, wielding a sleeping-gas gun.

The series was written in 4-issue story arc, and the Hillsborough Public Library has received the 4 collections available to date.
The Tarantula: Collects issues 1-4, where Dodds must solve the mystery of a kidnapper calling himself "The Tarantula".
The Face and The Brute: Collects issues 5-12. In The Face, the Sandman gets involved in a series of deaths in Chinatown that may lead to a gang war. In The Brute, a boxer is on the run after turning in someone who was fixing fights.
The Vamp: Collects issues 13-16. The Sandman goes up against the Vamp, a women who lures men to her bed, then murders them.
The Scorpion: Collects issues 17-20. Dodds must go after a violent vigilante who uses a posioned whip.

Just in are a number of collections of classic works by comics legend Jack Kirby.

The four trade paperbacks collecting his signature Fourth World series with all the original black and white artwork are all in or will be in shortly. They follow the story of the conflict between New Genesis and Apokolips, featuring Orion, Darkseid, Highfather, Mister Miracle, Barda, and more.
Jack Kirby's New Gods collects all 11 issues of his New Gods series.
Jack Kirby's The Forever People collects all 11 issues of his Forever People series.
Jack Kirby's Mister Miracle collects the first half of his Mister Miracle series.
Jack Kirby's Fouth World collects the second half of his Mister Miracle series.

In addition to these, the library has also received 2 collections of his work in full-color.
Challengers of the Unknown Archives, Volume 1 collects the first six comics featuring his Challengers: Showcase #6, 7, 11 and 12, and Challengers of the Unknown #1 and 2.

Kamandi Archives, Volume 1 collects Kamandi #1-10.

New Arrival: Will Eisner's New York, Life in the Big City

Just in is Will Eisner's New York, Life in the Big City. This book collects 4 of Eisner's graphic novels: New York, The Building, City People Notebook and Invisible People, written from 1981 to 1992. These stories from an acknowledged pioneer and master of the graphic novel format are given an introduction and some background from fellow graphic novel creator Neil Gaiman.

New Arrival: An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, edited by Ivan Brunetti

Just in is the Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons, & True Stories. An excellent collection of art comics by a wide variety of creators, including Robert Crumb, Chris Ware, Daniel Clowes, Gilbert & Jaime Hernandez, Debbie Dreschler, Art Spiegelman, and many more, selected by cartoonist Ivan Brunetti. Published by Yale University Press, the anthology includes nearly 400 pages of black-and-white and color cartoons and strips.

New Arrival: DC Universe, the Stories of Alan Moore

New on the shelf is the trade paperback DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore. It collects many of the most important comics Moore wrote during his tenure with DC in the mid-1980's. Included are classics such as the Batman comic The Killing Joke, and the Superman two-parter Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, considered by many to be the finest of the Silver Age Superman stories.

New Arrival: The Halo Graphic Novel

Just in is the new Halo Graphic Novel. Based on the popular video game, this book is an anthology of 4 stories set during a 26th Century war between humanity and hostile aliens. The artwork is done by a variety of well-known artists, such as Simon Bisley, Tsutomu Nihei, and Moebius.

Introducing: The Adult Graphic Novel Collection

Did you know that the Hillsborough Public Library has recently added an Adult Graphic Novel Collection? We currently have over 100 titles, in a variety of areas.

Classic Superhero Comics
We have a number of volumes of full-color Golden Age and Silver Age superhero reprints. These include the Golden Age Spectre Archives, Supergirl Archives, Metal Men Archives, Kamandi Archives, and more. We also have a number of the DC Comics Showcase series, which reprints Silver Age comics in black-and-white. These include Jonah Hex, Superman Family, Justice League of America, Green Lantern, House of Mystery, Haunted Tank, and more.

Trade Paperbacks of Classic 1980's and 1990's series
Among our collection are Grant Morrison's Kid Eternity and Sebastion O miniseries, The Maze Agency by Mike Barr, V for Vendetta by Alan Moore, and others.

Current Series and Other Works
We are also buying collections of some of the best current graphic novels.
